FNO 2011.

The scene at Tiffany & Co. on Fifth

An event created by astute businesswoman and fashion god Anna Wintour, Fashion's Night Out cultivates a relationship between shoppers and the people who bring fashion into being: designers, magazine editors, models, retail employees, photographers, bloggers, celebrities, and many others.

FNO was created in 2009 with the underlying intention of boosting the economy after the recession of 2008, but also to get customers involved with the fashion industry in a very unique way. For this one September night each year, all the players of the fashion industry - big and small - are available to interact with the people [consumers] that support their business. FNO is a phenomenal idea and has been a great success. This year, FNO was celebrated in eighteen countries.

The New York listings were incredible. Sarah Jessica Parker was in Manolo Blahnik, Lara Stone in Calvin Klein, Estelle at Diane Von Furstenberg, Karolina Kurkova at Macy's, Chanel Iman at Gucci, Alexa Chung at Stella McCartney, Leighton Meester at Tiffany's...

It was truly a night to remember.

Haunting.

My first thought upon seeing this photo was the elegiac holographic image of Kate Moss shown for the first time during the finale of Alexander McQueen Fall 2006 show -- a phenomenal sight.

The hologram was recreated in miniature form for the Metropolitan Museum's exhibition, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.

Can you imagine a place where everyone is so well dressed? Brights for summer paired with glamourous heels -- chic.

Chloé.

I am so impressed by the presentation of Chloé's Resort 2012 collection as shown on Vogue.com. It's runway fashion worn by runway models, but shown on the streets. Take a look:

This type of presentation not only brings life to the clothes and accessories, but it also shows viewers that the clothes are wearable and accessible - brilliant.

Street fashion style blogs such as Streetfsn by Nam and Jak and Jil show "real people" wearing the fashions from the runways in "real places."

The Bun.

The Ballerina Bun v. The Top Knot

Here are the contestants:

I confess, throwing my hair into a bun was my go-to I'm-having-a-particularly-bad-hair-day hairstyle. It was easy -- great for class, the beach, eating... I didn't think about it and a mirror was not required to achieve the "easy" look. One day, a close friend complimented, "I really like your ballerina bun. It's chic." This was the first time I really thought about my bun as a fashion statement. Now ballerina buns, messy bedhair buns, and top knots are showing up in all sorts of fashion editorials and on the streets.

The consensus: Be conscious of your bun! ~

I always love a beautiful photo - they were the reason I started reading Vogue back in elementary school. Vogue does a romantic photo like no other.

Recently, I've been trying to pay more attention to the eye behind the photos I adore: the photographers. Films and other media have begun to showcase these geniuses.

Bill Cunningham -- Bill Cunningham New York - trailer

Scott Schuman "The Sartorialist"  -- The Sartorialist documentary

I've been collecting photos that show other photographers taking different angles of the same shot (above). We so often view photos in magazines and on blogs and forget that there is a whole world we aren't seeing.

A few months ago, a couple of friends and I had a mini-debate regarding the origin of the bikini. Was it really named after Bikini Atoll? Or was it named strategically bikini to indicate two pieces?

Take a look: Time's The History of the Bikini -- really interesting.

Photo: Elle Russia via fashiongonerogue.com

There are many options for women's swimwear - or tanwear if you aren't keen on getting wet. One pieces, tankinis, bikinis, monokinis, the recent burqini to name a few. Just taking the 'bikini' category there are bandeau tops, string tops, push-ups; for bottoms, you can choose a bikini cut, high-waisted (think: retro), brazilian (think: cheeky).

I recently purchased a white bandeau top in hope of looking tanner (skin color contrast with the white was the idea).

Which type are you wearing this season?
