Congratulations to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, who were married this morning! The wedding looked wonderful and extraordinarily elegant. Today, the designer of the gorgeous gown was finally revealed: Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Sarah Mower of VOGUE wrote, "Catherine Middleton and Sarah Burton have successfully kept the best-guarded secret in fashion history. The incredibly moving moment when the new Duchess of Cambridge stepped out of her car in an Alexander McQueen dress was the fantasy everyone in fashion has been dreaming would come true."A fashion fantasy it was, and many fashion designers and critics seem to have come to the general consensus that Kate's choice was perfect. Karl Lagerfeld, genius creative director of Chanel, said, "She is very elegant. The dress is classic and goes very well in the Westminster decor. It almost reminds me of (Queen) Elizabeth's wedding, the royal weddings in the Fifties. The proportion of the train is good. The lace is very pretty. I like the veil a lot."
Sarah Burton, designer for Alexander McQueen and the woman who created Kate Middleton's gown, received great praise for her recent Fall 2011 collection for McQueen. Here is one of my favorite looks from the collection (a gown that I think, is fit for a princess):

British designer, Alexander McQueen, took his life just over a year ago. McQueen was known for his darker fashions, knowledge of bespoke tailoring, and powerful collections. Lady Gaga adored McQueen's fashions and shortly after his death, Gaga wrote her single, "Born This Way," but held the release date until the one-year anniversary of McQueen's death.

Lady Gaga arrived at the 2010 MTV awards in Alexander McQueen (above). In addition to the gown, Gaga sported McQueen's armadillo shoes from his Spring 2010 collection. When questioned if the shoes were hard to walk in or if they hurt, Lady Gaga responded simply with the statement, "Beauty is pain."
This year, The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute will host an exhibition in tribute of the late Alexander McQueen. The exhibition, "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty," will be celebrated at The Met's 2011 Costume Institute Gala Benefit on May 2. The exhibit opens to the public on May 4, 2011 and runs until July 31, 2011.
